A Favorite Children's Book

My favorite children's book is The Kissing Hand" by Audrey Penn.  It makes me think of when I sent my three boys off to school for the first time.  I also used this when I taught first grade.  I would read this story to them and then we would make a kissing hand which we gave to their parents at open house.

  1. I love this book, too! I read it at our PreK Back to School Night each year, even if I have repeating students. We don't make a kissing hand like you did, but instead I have the parents trace their hand on a piece of paper then have the kids trace their hand inside the parent's hand. The parents then write a note to their child just in case they have a 'lonely day'. When these days roll around I pull out the booklet of papers from that night and the child can find their hand, place it on top of their parent's, and have the encouraging message read to them. :)
