“Play permits
the child to resolve in symbolic form unsolved problems of the past and to cope
directly or symbolically with present concerns. It is also his most significant
tool for preparing himself for the future and its tasks.” ~ Bruno Bettelheim

Show me and I remember. Involve me and I understand."

wet cement. Whatever falls on them makes an impression.” ~ Dr. Hiam Ginnot
Children
Learn What They Live
If a child lives with
criticism, he learns to condemn.
If a child lives with
hostility, he learns to fight.
If a child lives with
ridicule, he learns to be shy.
If a child learns to feel
shame, he learns to feel guilty.
If a child lives with
tolerance, he learns to be patient.
If a child lives with
encouragement he learns confidence
If a child lives with
praise, he learns to appreciate.
He a child lives with
fairness, he learns justice.
If a child lives with
security, he learns to have faith.
If a child lives with
approval, he learns to like himself.
If a child lives with
acceptance and friendship, he learns to find love in the world.

Amy,
ReplyDeleteI love that Chinese proverb! How vastly different telling, showing, and involvement are from one another. It amazes me how something simple - such as this proverb - apply not only to early childhood but also to anyone we meet in life. It is a good thought to keep in mind.
Thank you for your words of encouragement and support during this course together. I look forward to running into you more in the future. It is nice to have some familiarity with classmates from previous classes. Good luck in your endeavors!
